Mr. Independent
The past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind. We had the Fourth of July (which was a lot of fun – Emmett almost stayed awake through all the fireworks), Gus was born and I’ve been super busy with work. I finally got around to taking Emmett with me to HubSpot (the company I work for) one day, too!
Oh yeah, and it’s as if because Emmett is 6 months old now (I know, half a year? SO hard to believe!), he thinks he’s become Mr. Independent or something. Our little trick of feeding Emmett with the aid of the Boppy no longer works. Instead, he wants to try to hold the bottle and feed himself. I guess he doesn’t need me anymore …
Here are some picture highlights from the past couple weeks …

Emmett Likes Oatmeal!
Or “oap-meal,” as my family likes to call it. Well, oatmeal mixed with formula, that is. He definitely prefers it over rice cereal. It’s kind of fun that his preferences, likes and dislikes are starting to shine through. He managed to eat most of what I prepared tonight, and then proceeded to ask for more, as shown in this video:
What a messy lil dude. Good thing he was wearing his Terrible Towel bib to mop him up with, courtesy of Uncle Dan and Uncle Matt.

Feeding Emmett “Solids,” Take Two
We attempted to feed Emmett that yummy rice cereal/formula mixture again a couple of days ago. He seemed a little more receptive to the idea, actually opening his mouth when the spoon came near and even swallowing some of it (or so it seemed anyway)! Check out the two part series below (we had some technical difficulties) for an exclusive look …

Emmett’s First Spoon-Fed Meal
Mmmm … rice cereal. Okay, maybe not so much “mmmm” and more like, “Ummmm, Mom? What the heck is this stuff?” I guess we’ll try again next week.
