Santa Baby
Well, the holidays are officially underway, and as always, I’m super behind on my Christmas shopping. We have, however, managed to get the stockings hung, the tree (delivered by James’ parents from Maine) up and decorated and our holiday cards safely to their destinations. Although I wish I could send a card to everyone I know, it’s simply not possible, so here’s a peak for everyone to see:
Yes, Emmett has a full-out Santa suit. Yes, this was the best picture I could get of him in it, even after two photo shoots on separate occasions. Now I understand why people take their kids to professional photographers. It was literally impossible to get a quality picture of Emmett smiling that also showed off the Santa suit.
In developmental milestone news, Emmett is officially only a month away from his first birthday. He now has six teeth — four on the top and two on the bottom in the front — and as of earlier this week, he weighs 21 lbs, 11 oz.
He’s getting more adventurous about his standing, too. If you let go of him he can stand without help for a few seconds, and if you hold one of his hands, he’ll walk around with you. He can also now climb onto the chair in our living room by himself, which means he now garners a lot more attention from me. Can I say the cliche thing? He’s seriously growing up so fast! After much hesitation, I even gave him his first (very) overdue haircut tonight – just a little off the sides.

Drunk Baby
When Emmett has a bad day, he goes straight to the bottle. I guess it’s never too soon to have that “Don’t Drink and Drive” chat with your son…
Good thing it’s only formula.
Age Timer: 9 months, 2 days (In two more days, Emmett will have spent the same amount of time outside the womb as he did inside!)
Patiently Awaiting the Arrival of Baby K
James’ brother and sister-in-law headed to the hospital yesterday to induce labor. Poor Sara was almost 2 weeks overdue, and it seems Mr. Baby K (for their last name) was getting a little too comfortable in his crowded little motel room. Although it seems like it was a little slow going at first (apparently they spent last evening playing cards and eating hospital food), there has been no word from them yet today, so we’re wondering if things are starting to move along.
In the life of Emmett, there’s not too much exciting going on this week over here. He seems to have a runny nose, so his nickname of “SlobberPuss” has slowly been evolving into “SnotterPuss.” His Halloween costume came in the mail the other day, and it fits him perfectly! We can’t wait for all of you to see him in it!
Other than that, we’ve basically just been waiting for the exciting news of Baby K’s debut. Hopefully by the end of the evening I’ll be able to update this post and announce the news of his arrival!

Gus Nutter, Come on Down!
In proper Price is Right fashion, my soon-to-be nephew, Gus is “[coming] on down!” I’m so excited! My sister, Adrienne had a visit with her obstetrician this afternoon, and she is 1 cm dilated and 75% effaced. Little Gus is on his way! She is due July 11, so it could be any day now. Some cool possibilities for Gus’ birthday:
- July 4 – Adrienne’s husband, Mac’s birthday, not to mention Independence Day!
- July 9 – Adrienne and Mac’s wedding anniversary (4 years)
- July 16 – Emmett’s half birthday; the cousins would be exactly 6 months apart!
I’m thrilled to be a first time aunt once Gus arrives. It’s so crazy to think that if Gus is born by July 16, I’ll be a first time mom and aunt all within 6 months! Babies, babies, babies!
Enjoy this video (taken a month ago) of Adrienne’s nephew, Patrick, engaging in some prenatal care for baby Gus …
Adrienne and Mac are heading to their friend’s wedding this Friday. Maybe some wedding dancing will induce labor …

Baby Lump Takes on Tub
Last Friday, James and I gave Em his very first real bath. We’re talking full-on baby (sans head, of course) water submersion. None of that sponge bath nonsense. Boy did he love it! He was quite a content baby if I’ve ever seen one. The nurses at the hospital told James and I that babies only need about one to two baths per week, but there’s no harm in bathing them more frequently if they’re a fan of it. Considering Emmett is a fan, I think there are many more baths in his future.

Water Baby
Due to the risk of embarrassing future Emmett, I debated about whether to post bathtime pictures. Sorry Em, but it was really too cute to pass up, so I’ve included an edited version (I compromised). After all, what are parents for? (Future Emmett will just be happy I didn’t post the video ….)
