James had his first Father’s Day last Sunday, so of course I did a successful job of teasing him by wrapping his presents and displaying them on the kitchen table the Wednesday before. I know — evil. To be fair, there were three gifts, and I let him open one each day starting on Friday. Father’s Day itself was fun. We indulged James’ craving for KFC, then later went out to dinner to Charley’s with his parents who were in town to help James’ step sister move.
James, Emmett & spoon on Father's Day
Overall, I think James enjoyed his first Father’s Day. I bet he’ll love it even more as the years go by and Emmett actually understands what’s going on
Or “oap-meal,” as my family likes to call it. Well, oatmeal mixed with formula, that is. He definitely prefers it over rice cereal. It’s kind of fun that his preferences, likes and dislikes are starting to shine through. He managed to eat most of what I prepared tonight, and then proceeded to ask for more, as shown in this video:
What a messy lil dude. Good thing he was wearing his Terrible Towelbib to mop him up with, courtesy of Uncle Dan and Uncle Matt.
Remember how I told you that all Em seems to want to do lately is stand up? Well, thanks to Gran Lucy, now he can — without any help from James or me! He has a brand new Sesame Street ABC Elmo Activity Walker, and he absolutely loves it. Here he is taking it for a test drive:
That video was taken before we had a chance to add the toys. He loves it even more now that they’re there.
Nibbling on Cookie Monster's cookie
We also tried out Emmett’s TravelSeat hook-on Chicco high chair for the first time yesterday, too. I think he’s a fan. Still doesn’t really seem to be a fan of rice cereal though. I think we’ll have to try something else.
Love the hippos! Hip? Hip-hop? Hip-hop-anonymous?
In other news, Emmett is 5 months old today! Can you believe it?
Well, I’m alone again. Sans boys. I don’t think I’ve mentioned this yet, but for the entire month of June (and maybe even the first week of July), James and Emmett will be spending every Wednesday night to Friday night in Maine. James is working for his parents’ business, Creative Cottages, and since I have a weekly work meeting every Friday, Emmett has to go with him.
Last week was the first week they went. It was the first night I spent away from Emmett, and while it was nice to have some time to myself (I got a LOT of work done and was able to go to a Tweetup!), it still felt strange to be alone, and I missed both of them terribly. To keep myself occupied, I’ve made an extensive list of things I want to get done while they’re away in June, which includes a ton of magazine-reading, plenty of baths and pedicures and some online shopping.
Emmett the Super Stander
Other than that, things are going very well. Emmett grows more and more everyday. And all he wants to do is stand up. Seriously, this kid is totally dying to be mobile. Last weekend we enjoyed another lovely visit from my parents. We went for a stroll around BU’s campus on Saturday, and on Sunday headed over to the Charles for the Dragon Boat Festival. James and I were also able to go on a date on Saturday night – we saw Angels and Demons (it was awesome!) and hung out with friends.

Hope you enjoyed the update. Gotta get back to my magazine reading!
