Call To Action: Help Us Name Baby Lump!

Okay everyone – here’s the deal.  We’ve embarked on the third trimester of our pregnancy journey and are still at a loss for baby boy names.  James and I are pretty certain of a name if Baby Lump is a little lady, but we aren’t quite in love with or agreeing upon any names if Lump is a little gentleman.

This is where you come in.  Gurgle.com has a fun little facebook application called “Name My Baby,” and I’ve just added it to my profile.  It allows you to suggest a baby name or vote on names that have already been suggested.  Unfortunately, the application isn’t without its flaws.  It will only allow users to suggest names already loaded into its database.  For example, I couldn’t add Atticus (What do you think of that one, btw?  I think it’s pretty awesome – “Atticus Vaughan?”).  Still, I think it will be interesting to see what you all come up with.  Maybe one of you will suggest the perfect name that James and I have overlooked.  Or maybe one of you will add a name like “Thygor” and crack us up.  Either way, I think it’s a win-win situation.  Remember, we’re only looking for boys/unisex names here.

For those of you without facebook (or are too lazy to make the extra trip), feel free to suggest a name in this post’s comments section, and I’ll be sure to add it to the list on facebook.  If enough of you get involved with suggesting names, I’ll add another page to the blog that outlines everyone’s suggestions/votes, much like I’ve done with the Birth Stats page.  For now, I’ll add the link to the facebook application to the blog’s sidebar.

Thanks in advance for helping us name Baby Lump!

Click here to visit my profile and suggest/vote on a name on facebook.  Click on the “view suggested names” or “suggest a name” text in the “Name My Baby” application on the left sidebar of my profile.

Personally, I LOVE Atticus Vaughn. Plus, Atticus is such a great name from a fantastic book and movie: To Kill A Mockingbird.

Okay, just for fun, here are my suggestions for a bunch of “Hollywood” worthy names (inspiration exclusively from my office and Demi Moore):

    Cork
    Canon
    Bostitch
Kensington (I think that might be better for a girl)
Surprise (Surprise Seiple?????) — Hey that’s not bad … has alliteration going for it.
    Eckhart
    Fornell
    Purpose
    Sprint
    Solar
    Zip
    Raritan
    Balance
    Tumbleweed
    Century

My vote goes to Zip Seiple.

    Cheers …
    Matt

    Matt,

That was seriously one of those most entertaining comments I’ve had on this blog so far. Those Hollywood-inspired names are awesome! I’m a pretty big fan of Tumbleweed.

My dad thinks we should name Baby Lump “Crew Vaughan” if he’s a boy. It started out as a total joke, but I think he’s only half joking now. It definitely seems to be growing on him. Completely celeb-like.

    Matthew (duh)

    Hi Pam,

I am a fellow 2008 BU grad and stumbled across your blog through a mutual friend, and I just wanted to wish you luck for a safe delivery and offer some names:

    Lucas
    Domenic
    Patrick
    Edward
    Nathanial

Nothing creative, but I think they’re good strong names. But I actually really like Atticus too.

I personally think that Charles Vaughan sounds like a movie star or somebody who would take over your company and fire you. A gangster name either way. Hank and Jack are good too.

But considering I’m predicting a girl, I think Miranda Rae Vaughan is pretty sick. Emily and Olivia are solid too.

Miranda Rae would definitely be famous as well.

    Char,

I really like the name, Jack, but James isn’t a fan. And Miranda? Really? I just think of the chick from Sex and the City when I hear Miranda. We’re already set for a girl’s name anyway. Thanks for the suggestions!

Not being a big Sex and the City fan, I didn’t think of that angle. Anyway, good luck and I’ll let you know if I think of any more names.

    Shpammy-

I still can’t believe you’re actually having a baby. This is so exciting. I’ve always been a fan of traditional Irish names for kids… here are some of my fave boys’ names:

    Bradan (pronouced Bray-don)
    Colin
    Dermot
    Eamon (pronounced Ay-mon)
    Fionn (pronounced Finn)
    Liam
    Malachi (pronounced Mala-kye)
Nevan (this means “little saint” isn’t that cute?)
    Ronan
    Tiernan

I have to say though I am a huge fan of “Atticus Vaughn” as well.
    ;)

    Charlie,

I’ve always called you Char! I guess you just never listened to me … :o (

    Mary,

I know – it’s crazy! I really like Liam, but James isn’t a fan. I actually really like those last three you suggested – Nevan, Ronan and Tiernan. Thanks! I’ll bring them up to James later today. Hope you’re doing well!

So I never posted about boys names until I had a conversation with Kyle about it (your future child’s name… not mine haha) and we decided that we like a lot of names used in Shakespeare. So I found this website that it VERY extensive (and needs obvious editing) but I thought you might want to take a look. There are some terrible names, as on all baby name lists, but there are also some cool ones. Here are ones I like with the corresponding play (since I’m a nerd):

    Benvolio (Romeo & Juliet)
    Cassio (Othello)
Court (Henry V) – I also have a friend named Court – so it can be a modern name too!
    Lenox (Macbeth)
    Lucius (Julius Caesar)
    Sebastian (Twelfth Night)
    Shylock (Merchant of Venice)

Here’s the website: http://www.namenerds.com/uucn/shakes.html Hope you enjoy!

well, i might be a little late, but i was actually having a conversation about baby names with a girl expecting at my work today. i think Atticus is a stellar name and the girl at work agreed. other names that were tossed around:

    Aiden
    Colin
    Chase
    Bryan
    Jackson
    Deacon

whatever the case, I’m sure you’ll come up with something great. and again i know i’m late with this but Congratulations!
